Transforming the FEC row to greenway w bike/light-rail

addressing the lack of transit that plagues SE Florida. I have long been posting my ideas of a comprehensive light rail plan for Miami and beyond. It begins with the transformation of the FEC row but extends well beyond

Who are you?

I am a designer. I studied environmental design at Parsons School of design, NYC. I hav long been posting my thoughts and ideas of a transit friendly Miami on my Facebook page as well as twitter, under the name SEFTA

How does this project impact the issue you selected?

It is completely a game changer. It would be the instigator of redeveloping the corridor lining the FEC tracks as well as becoming the first leg of a tri-county system of transit and trails. It would become an art trail as well as an education tool for environmental issues

What data points from The Our Miami Report does your project address?

Environment & Public Space
Transportation
Housing & Affordability by adding transit oriented development and affordable housing along the FEC row

Please give examples of your project's success.

I believe I have at least started a conversation on placing a bike trail along the FEC row

Who are you?

Arch Creek Park was home to Tequesta Indians from 500 B.C. to 1300 A.D. Arch Creek became a significant Indian habitation. A midden is located in the park where a large amount of pottery shards, conch tools, and a single burial site have been found.

How does this project impact the issue you selected?

By increasing the accessibility along with providing rain shelters would positively affect the amount of visitors who use the park. The shelters allow for group gatherings, which brings new visitors into the park. This would increase community awareness and usage of the natural areas of the urban environment.

What data points from The Our Miami Report does your project address?

The availability of abundant, well-maintained public spaces is a critical component of a vibrant urban environment.

Please give examples of your project's success.

Before the shelters burned down/ deteriorated they were highly used by school groups, community clubs, and families. Now that the shelters are no longer usable there has been significantly less visitors in the park along with less community involvement through the parks various activities.
