Teenagers from all backgrounds and cultures need access to serious health resources and information, including topics like eating disorders, pregnancy, sexual abuse, depression, bullying, suicide, and health insurance. Who are you?

We are two local social entrepreneurs (and sisters) who know the power that health education and access to information can have on our children and our community.

How does this project impact the issue you selected?

By engaging students to combat systemic, community-wide health issues, we foster a generation of young people that are proactive, not reactive to their health issues. HIP Day is a powerful learning space for our 1,000 teen health educators that focuses on prevention and collaboration to address these critical health issues.

What data points from The Our Miami Report does your project address?
  1. Residents Have Access To Health Care: These students are educating thousands of their peers at their schools about the benefits of health insurance and how to access it. 2) Residents Make Healthy Choices: Students are given practical, reliable information so they can make informed decisions about their health, thereby preventing chronic diseases. 3) Residents are Healthy: Students that are physically and emotionally well will be more successful academically.
Please give examples of your project's success.

HIP has expanded from 2 schools to nearly 40 schools in five years. During this school year, there are 1,000 student peer health educators providing the program to over 25,000 9th graders. HIP Day is a powerful demonstration of how thousands of high school students from this Miami community step up each year to ensure the health and well-being of their peers.
